The term House covers a broad variety of electronic music productions with a straight 4/4 kickdrum, ranging between 115 and 130 BpM. The term was developed as a reference to the legendary Warehouse club in Chicago, where Frankie Knuckles as resident DJ was an important figurehead of early House music. Besides Chicago with its strongly influental artists as DJ Pierre, Larry Heard aka Mr. Fingers, Marshall Jefferson and Tyree Cooper, also New York (home of the Paradise Garage club and arstis as Larry Levan, Francois Kervokian, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries and Kenny Dope Gonzales) and Detroit (Kevin Saunderson, Mad Mike Banks) were the strongholds of early House music. Most of the listed artists are still active. Besides them, some of the most important names in todays House music are Roger Sanchez, Daft Punk, Erick Morillo, David Morales and Armand van Helden. Hotspots of the global scene are Ibiza in summer and the annualy Winter Music Conference in Miami.
