The term Breaks is an umbrella term for modern dance music using or imitating so-called breakbeats, thus unstraightened rhyhm sections of elder Funk records, which are looped, speeded up and used as ground element of dance music tracks. The genre first got used to describe early and mid-nineties Big Beat and Chemical Breaks music by the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method and Propellerheads. Today, the term mostly stands for so-called Nu-Skool-Breaks, a genre quite similar to Big Beat and Chemical Breaks, but rather using drum computer rhythms. The genres leading artist, amongst others, are Adam Freeland, Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Meat Katie and Krafty Kuts.
