Sinn der Sendung war das Testen des neuen Streamlaptop, nachdem wir in den Sendungen zuvor häufiger Probleme hatten. Deep, dark, twisted and simply great: Dumb Unit was in the Berlin Mitte Institut house and brought the label head, dj and producer Jeremy P. Caulfield, Berlin based djs and producers Exercise One, Italian heart breaker Cesare vs. Disorder and New Yorker dj and producer Elon. We had 4 hours of groovy / doomy minimal techno sound, spiced up with trying to be informative interviews in between. Exercise One played a wickedy liveset, going more into twisted and hard techno. ajaja, schön war es. Sehr schön. Und der Chat war begeistert. Wir hatten noch nie soviel Musiktechnik im BMI-Wohnzimmer wie zu dieser Sendung. Bestimmt über 20 analoge Klangerzeuger bzw. -verfremder, umfangreich gemoddet und selbst zusammengebaut. Vom Controller-Joystick bis zu modularen Synthesizern. Und dazu ein kleines Orchester bestehend aus 7 Musizierenden, die über einen Taktgeber gekoppelt gleichzeitig loopartige Klangkollagen entwickelten, beibehielten und verschwinden ließen. Teilweise tanzbar, teilweise nur zum Hören – stets interessant und anregend.

Eine Hiobsbotschaft gibt es allerdings, bzw: Erstmal die gute Nachricht: Der gesamte MP3-Mitschnitt über 4 Stunden ist da und kann sich angehört und heruntergeladen werden, siehe below. Allerdings ist der ganze Videomitschnitt im Arsch (bzw. online auf dern Servern von Livestream.com nicht vorhanden, vermutlich Encodierungsfehler), und das ist echt zum Kotzen – so seht ihr den ganzen Maschinenfuhrpark nicht, der das Wohnzimmer-Studio bevölkerte – und all die gemoddete Hardware. Aber ich versuche noch ein paar Fotos aufzutreiben, sodass ihr wenigstens einen Eindruck bekommt. Alle die auf dem Videostream live dabei waren, können sich besonders priviligiert fühlen … :-)

Besonders spannend war das Beobachten des Szenarios, so unwirklich im kleinen Wohnzimmer und zugleich direkt vor der Nase. Das Erleben von Klang und Kreativität durch Technologie; durch das Interagieren mit standardisierten und selbst verfremdeten Interaktionselementen, der soziale Charakter kollektiv komponierter Rhythmen, die Interaktion zwischen den einzelnen Einheiten des Orchesters. Sei es per Midi, per Geste oder über Worte.

Wir vom BMI waren Zeuge einer orchestralen Live-Produktion elektronischer Musik, wie man sie heute immer weniger bzw. überhaupt nur noch ganz selten antrifft. Gegenwärtig wird Techno ja vor allem anhand von Allround-Musik-Softwares von einzelnen Personen oder gelegentlich auch Produzentenmultiplos an Computern geschaffen und als fertige Tracks konzipiert. Hier war alles improvisiert und basierte auf den Prinzipien von Takt, Loop und angelernten musikalischen Mustern (habitualisiert), die man "gefühlsecht" einsetzte, wo und wie es passte. Herauskam eine 4-stündige Klangkollage mit zwischenzeitlichen Interviews. Hört sie, hört die Musik, lasst euch inspirieren und sagt uns, was ihr davon haltet. Good times, good times! The Boysnoize Records Label Show: Great and different music., not the usual techno and house stuff. Many genres and influences melted into new styles. From funk, to hiphop, to oldschool, jungle and 90s rave to deep house, techno and more: The Boysnoize nu-rave sound special @ Berlin Mitte Institut. With Strip Steve, E-Kreisel, 100Tons, Sacha Robotti and Fresh Meat. Steve's set was mindblowing. He offered a really nice insight on what Boysnoize might sound like. We also planned Housemeister to play on this show and represent the label, but he cancalled the date twice on short notice without giving reasons – just in case you are wondering. Anyways, with Steve we had a really nice and musicwise fantastic guy here. E-Kreisel and 100Tons played really nice supporting sets too: Warming up and getting you into bed. Vom Klangdesign einzelner Töne bis zum Arrangement eines Tracks hat Florian Meindl (Flash, Trapez, MyBestFriend …) jeden einzelnen Schritt live für euch gemacht und genau erklärt, was er tut. Gleichzeitig gab er viele Tipps, was man beachten sollte.

Teil 1 und 2 unser Produktionssendung stehen nun zum Download bereit. Schaut euch auch die Videos auf Youtube an, da könnt ihr Florian zuschauen, wie er produziert und musiziert. Im ersten Teil ging es um die Live-Produktion eines Loops. Nachdem dies auf viel Aufmerksamkeit im Netz stieß, entschlossen wir uns noch eine zweite Sendung hinterzuschieben: Teil 2, mit der Live-Arrangierung des Loops zu einem ganzen Track. Ein wirklich toller Abend, das kann man ganz unvoreingenommen und objektiv sagen. Marc Hype, Dejoe und Special Guest Mondee (Brooklynradio) aus New York spielten viele Facetten von Hiphop aus über 30 Jahren Geschichte. Die erste Stunde präsentiert Marc Hype den Hiphop der 1980er inklusive wichtiger Electro-Tracks, für die 1990er ist dann Dejoe in der zweiten Stunde dran. Danach kommt Special Guest Mondee zum Zuge, der aktuellen Indie/Minor Hiphop spielte. Zwischendurch gab es ein 40-minütiges Interview mit unseren Gäste über drei zentrale Themen:

* Entwicklung von Hiphop
* Hiphop in Berlin und über die
* Gemeinsamkeiten von Hiphop und House/Techno.

Interessanterweise ist Mondee von New York nach Berlin gezogen, da ihm die New Yorker Hiphop-Szene nicht mehr zusagte, im Gegensatz zum Berliner Hiphop-Flair. Uns vom Berlin Mitte Institut sind sind solche “Migrationen” (obwohl man davon im Hiphop-Fall sicherlich noch nicht sprechen kann) eher aus der Techno-Szene bekannt, von daher sind wir gespannt wie es weitergeht.

Unbeabsichtigterweise haben wir im Internet mit dieser Sendung bei einigen unser regelmäßigen Zuhörer mit dem Featuren des Hiphop-Sound ein wenig Protest ausgelöst – einige sind der Ansicht, dass House/Techno und Hiphop völlig verschiedene Sachen sind. So war es uns in dieser Sendung auch ein Anliegen auf die Gemeinsamkeiten dieser ausdifferenzierten musikalischen Praxen hinzuweisen. Ziel der Sendung war, dass Florian eine Skizze von einem Track (ein Loop, ein Grundgerüst) produziert – das haben wir soweit auch geschafft. Für uns vom Berlin Mitte Institut war es besonders wichtig, den normalen Produktionsvorgang eines Tracks mal live nachzuvollziehen und zu diskutieren. So wie er sich in der Sendung ereignete, ganz ähnlich passiert er auch tagtäglich in den Homerecording-Studios quer über den Globus verteilt. Jedoch haben Produzenten ihre eigenen/lokalen/gruppenspezifischen Herangehensweisen und Produktionstechniken die sie bevorzugen; und nicht zuletzt gibt es gerade dort die größten Diskussionen, wenn es zum Beispiel darum geht wie man richtig produziert (Presets benutzen ja oder nein oder wenig oder viel modulieren, Sampling, etc). Das sind interessante Werte-Schlachten, die vor allem im Chat und Foren ausgefochten wurden . ;-)

Am Montag den 18. Januar 2010 wird es von 19-23 Uhr den zweiten Teil dieser Sendung geben. Dann wird Florian die erstellte Skizze zu einem ganzen Track arrangieren, live während der Sendung. Anschließend mastered er den Track bei sich im Studio. Ihr könnt euch den Track danach hier kostenlos als Wav oder HQ MP3 runterladen, in Clubs spielen, verteilen etc. Überlegt euch schonmal Namen, wie der er heißen soll :-)

Zusätzlich zum Track werdet ihr dann auch 8 Stunden Audiomaterial der gesamten Entstehung (vom Erstellen des Loops bis hin zum Arrangement) zur Verfügung haben, sodass ihr nicht nur den fertigen Track hören und spielen, sondern auch seine Entstehung und Entwicklung Schritt für Schritt nachvollziehen könnt.

After 2 months of absence for holidays and girls the Berlin Mitte Institut returns for the new Techno season with new shows. Just like last year we are trying to get more in to the direction of a “culture show”, which means: Not just showcasing music and promoting artists and labels, but combining promotion with the presentation of background knowledge in an authentic and “feel good” environment. We are starting of with our “New Releases Show” on the 12th of October. There are many more shows planned, like a HipHop special with Marc Hype, Till von Sein and the Rap History crew, a Goa special, one or two shows with a live production of a music track, a Moon Harbour Label Show, various New Releases Shows and much more to be announced soon.
