The Blue Note label was founded in 1939 by Alfred Lion, a german immigrant from Berlin, and Marcus Margulis in New York. Blue Note was especially known for its understanding and respectful contact to artists and the establishment of bop. One part of the company success was the transformation of the branche from shellac to vinyl. In the 50ies and 60ies it was one of the best Jazz labels. To their catalgue belonged Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver and Jimmy Smith. In the 70ies it was sold United Artists, which were taken over by EMI and is now a department of Captiol Records. New founded in 1985 the label is now active with artists like Norah Jones and Al Green. Show less
