Founder and still the owner are the two in Frankfurt/Germany living DJ´s Ata and Heiko Schäfer in cooperation with Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke (both better known as Alter Ego, Acid Jesus or Sensorama).
Originally considered as an alternative to Klang Elektronik for releasing the tracks who were in a classical way more house-accorded, Playhouse developed itself very fast to a very independent label, that cultivates a completely characteristic, extremly modern and futuristic style by mixing the very simple and elementary qualities of so-called classic 'Old School House' with fresh and never before listened 'Science-Fiction'-sounds and structures.
Besides local artists like LoSoul), Isolée) and Bodo Elsel), it has specially been the american cult band Blaze with their Lovelee Dae and the 1998 released album Blaze Productions, that caused the international breakthrough for the label.
As well Isolée as LoSoul released in 2000 their debutalbums Rest respectively Belong and opened with it the the release of CD´s on Playhouse. At this time Isolée released with Beau Mot Plage the greatest Playhouse-Hit until 2000.
In 2001 followed the first live- and DJ-tour called 'Famous When Dead' as well as the 50. playhouse jubilee edition, the Famous When Dead.
Further albums like the second part of 'Famous When Dead' (this time a selection of Ata´s favourites of other labels) and the third one followed, as well as many releases from today very famous producers like Ricardo Villalobos, Rework or Captain Comatose.
Playhouse personifies visionary progress in club-house and pop-house music with deep and timeless mentality. Show less
