The Breakbeat Lounge
September 2004
This compilation contains only exclusive tracks from various german, austrian, even estonian producers and aims on promoting the full spectre of soulful drum & bass.
It is compiled and mixed by dj Bass Tikal, one of the two heads of PHUNKFICTION RECORDINGS. The featured tracks range from smooth summersounds to deep club smashers - but always with that special touch of soul. We believe to have chosen an absolute high quality selection which works both - easy listening and on the dancefloor.
You can pre-listen the featured tunes on our website www.phunkfiction.com
Phunk002 12“ Vinyl
A: Syncopix – Barbie Q
AA: Stare – Strings Attached 2005
April 2005
For the first vinyl Release we signed no other than two of the most increasing and upcoming producers of soulful drum&bass at the moment
For the A-Side we have the pleasure to release Mr.Syncopix from Hamburg Germany, who gained high attention last year for his hit-single “General Hospital” on Hospital Records. This tune made it to all years charts and was kind of a hymn to all Drum&Bass heads worldwide. He also did many other great releases on well-known labels like Mash, Nu:Tone`s BrandNU and his own imprint Form Recording. In December, Tony Colman the hospital man himself, wrote a very positive article about Syncopix in the knowledge mag. But these words are just a result of long and highly creative studio work and will not be a one-off.
With his tune “Barbie Q” he gave us an excellent start for our label`s vinyl series to show in which direction our work will go over the next months and years. He has the great ability to create songs that are totally dancefloor orientated without losing their big musical touch. Syncopix stands for real futuristic sound- and beat-arrangement with still the right portion of Phunk & Soul in it. This is exactly the direction Phunkfiction will go....heavy beats, heavy basses, soulful sounds and at least a lot of Phunk.
On the second A-Side we are proud to present the youngblood Stare aka Crescent. This guy already showed his big talent on labels like DSCI4, Intercom, Blindside and last but not least Renegade Recordings. Similar to the Syncopix Tunes, Stare always shows a great piece of funk in his productions without forgetting the dancefloor.
With „Strings Attached VIP“ he revisited his great tune we already featured on our compilation CD “The Breakbeat Lounge”. A funky downbeat intro is just the beginning of a harmonic and warm atmospheric tune that will smash the soulful floors around the globe. Besides Syncopix we are also sure with this tune to have found a great piece of music that perfectly presents our fiction of phunk.

AJC
A: By ure Side AA:Changes
June 2005
For this one we hooked up with Cologne`s up & coming producer trio AJC, comprising Amaning, J-Cut and Canoma. They produced a couple of soulful D&B monsters, from which we could get two of the hottest for Phunkfiction Rec. After their hard and highly creative work during the last months they deserve to get attention with a first 12inch release. Their soundwork totally fits to the aims of Phunkfiction Records, as we are trying to push the soulful side of D&B to where it`s worth to be. There will be a similar kind of sound to be heard in all forthcoming releases.
Both tunes got high attention and successful club plays by both, national and international top players like Future Prophecies, Teebee, Chris Su, Stare, DM-Cut @ Traffic&Future Thinkin, Wylie @ Repercussion, Mad Vibes (Nu:Vision), Dj Stunna – Chicago, DJ Uisceoz – Perth, Miss Reprezent @ Valve UK, Danny Exile @ Traffic UK, E.Decay, Bass Tikal and many more ...
Identity
Opened by a smooth atmospheric intro with lovely pads and female screaming vox, the tune develops into a great deep dancefloor monster combining funky house chords with a stunning electro synth melody and a fuckin heavy pushing subbass. Take care of your soundsystem.....
Twenty Four
Even a little more amtospheric than the flipside, this one is a beautiful piece of music creating that special mood on every dancefloor it got played. Nice rollin beats supported by lovely vox, a smooth sax line and harmonic pads lead to a driving subbassline without losing that special flair created in the intro.
Both sides are a great combination of melodic harmonies without losing the view to the dancefloor. Punchy beats, heavy pushin basslines and beautiful sounds, thats all you need to let the crowd going mad . The two tunes work great on the dancefloors around the globe and got heavy support and successful club plays by international top players like LTJ Bukem, Nookie, Fabio, Hold Tight, CLS&Wax, Syncopix, Stunna, AJC, HumptyC, Tease, Bass Tikal, ND, Dex and many more....
The Look to the Future
For our vinyl releases we fortunately got a strong distribution partner called S.T.Holdings from the UK which will help us to spread our sound over the whole world. Although doing the vinyl releases we won`t lose the look on the medium “CD”. We plan to release an ambient nu/jazz album of our own Label-Artist Flowmotion and a second part of the Breakbeat Lounge Compilation later this year. Besides these activities we try to push our Artists and give them the chance to make live shows and build up connection for them to other labels as well. So as you see there will be nearly no free-time in the next coming years for the Phunkfiction heads. Show less
