Jive Records was founded in 1977 by Clive Calder in London. For long years it was one of the most successful independent label with a strong focus on HipHop and R&B. It was responsible for early HipHop acts like Whodini (who was its first american signing), DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prinche, 2Pac, A Tribe Called Quest and KRS-One. After some distribution deals it was taken over by BMG and is now part of the Zomba Label Group under the head company Sony BMG empire with artists like N'Sync, Britney Spears and The Backstreet Boys.
