Arista Records was founded by Clive Davis in 1979 as he merged the music imprints of Columbia Pictures. It was sold in 1979 to german Ariola. When Ariola was bought by General Electrics and thus became part of BMG. After successes with Whitney Houston, Annie Lennox and Barry Manilow, the company had its rock bottom with the Milli Vanilli scandal in 1990. In 2000 Clive Daivs was suppressed and the new CEO became L.A. With him came newer acts like Dido, Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx
