Things are about to be taken further in giant steps: the up and coming crew of Tjumy Records is joining the Sass team for the foundation of Sass Music imprint and booking agency.
On July 3rd the release of the "Sophisticated Sass Sounds" compilation, available now on Vinyl and in September as CD, will be celebrated with a deep bang under the soulful hands on decks of Ken Hayakawa, Simon Lebon and Steve Sass. This night will be the beginning of a new monthly label night. Watch Out!
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
When I opened a little club in a small city in lower austria in 2003 a young guy joined the opening night equipped with a cd. On this cd there was an eclectic mixture of jazz and electronica. This young guy was immediately given a night in the same month to perform on the decks with many nights to follow. Four years later, Steve and I were still friends and felt a drive to open something in Vienna. Our working basis was the scientifically undefinable ‘middle between flex and Loos Bar’. After almost signing a contract for a place in the 8th, we found this peculiar cellar in the first district of Vienna and decided to rebuild this former 70’s disco from scratch. With electronic music in our minds we have now grown into creating something like a modern kind of disco. A place where it grooves more than it beats, so to say. With Sebastian we found a brilliant barkeeper and manager who was with the team from the beginning. In september ‘08 Simon joined the team as a booker and resident Dj with his fantastic talent for finding almost everything not quite as good as it should be. We are grateful for the support from many people, internationally or from Vienna!
