Distorded fucked-up bass, manga-ghetto sounds and a none too hidden passion for the dirty side of Chicago`s Acid House, are the distinguished marks of TAMPOPO, a master of oscillating between the arty and the boorish... The electro*techno*house producer, based in Toulouse (south of France), started his musical and visual adventures by setting out on a crusade to re-establish bad taste in Techno and House Music in his pure Sumodehouse style!
After two tracks published on the International DJ Gigolo Records compilations, TAMPOPO released his first single 'Sumo Da House' on the German label, gaining interests from the international techno and electro scene and began a series of live shows that was initiated during the Gigolo showcase at the Sonar 2000 in Barcelona.
TAMPOPO was asked to do some remixing works for Mexican artists Fussible of the Nortec Collective [Tijuana]. Followed by a remix for New Yorker duo Puberty Love that was out on the Lasergun label. Later came out the famous 'Motorbike Tampopo Remix' of the track originally produced in New York by 'Lectronix [also known as Hong Kong Counterfeit] on Throb Disks featuring living legend Man Parrish on vocals. This track was picked up by Felix Da Housecat for his DJ selection in the American magazine Remix [january 2003 issue]: "I like the Tampopo Remix a lot - it's crazy! It has a dirty bassline like buzzz, buzzz. It'll go really good with the Poney Ep by Vitalic. With that kick and that bass line - when you've got the analog synths where they don't sound acid-y, but the frequency and the resonance are really sharp - those really work good on the dancefloor".
The second Tampopo single 'Amadroid' was released on French label Play's Cool [charted by NYC's Sonic Groove record shop in between LFO and Radioactive Man new singles], coming with an exclusive remix by the Hong Kong Counterfeit team.
At the beginning of the year 2004, Tampopo signed to Trapez Ltd, the notorious Cologne based label headed by Riley (Triple R). The first Tampopo single to be released is the two tracker `Sellafield Two` – `Oxygen Lazy` (Trapez Ltd 032), showing a different musical side of the French producer Darkier, dubbier, haunted by electric tension ghosts Could be the perfect soundtrack of the last days of humankind and Tampopo paying homage to the electronic music `Dons` Kraftwerk!
Spring 2004: Tampopo creates with his friend Supakaji the netlabel Sweet Smelling Surfaces, setting up new standards in worldwide electronic music exposure. With 43 releases to this day and an ever increasing roster of talented artists (famous ones and others still to be discovered) Sweet Smelling Surfaces has turned in a short period of time into a very exciting online tool which focuses on quality electronic musics and digital art.
Early Spring 2005... Tampopo has completed the remix of the new Fussible`s smash hit `Tijuana Makes Me Happy`, a crispy pop*song turned into the Tampopo`s soundlab as a freaky stadium anthem.
