As a founder member of the Bugz in the Attic crew, Seiji is one of the principal players in what's been called the 'Broken Beat' scene, alongside IG Culture, fellow Bugz Afronaught and Kaidi Tatham, Dego MacFarlane, Domu, etc. He has been in demand as a producer/remixer under various guises across a spectrum of styles for several years now. Originally known for recording Drum & Bass in partnership with G-Force/Mark Force, his profile is now mainly due to his work as Seiji, Opaque and as part of Bugz in the Attic. Among some fleeting guises he's also recorded soulful House/Garage as Homecookin' (album out on Sole), Everyday People and USC for a wide selection of labels including Bugz own Bitasweet Records, 2000 Black, Ubiquity, 4hero's Reinforced, Papa, Talkin' Loud, Visions, Sonar Kollektiv, Laws Of Motion, Versatile, ArchiveĀ.the list goes on. Seiji's reputation as a DJ has also been on the rapid increase over the past two years, touring Japan with Dego, taking in two US tours, and playing around the UK and Europe every week at some of the top cutting edge music clubs/events.
'91/'92- First started listening to electronic dance music, checking Hardcore on the pirates.
'93-'95- Started buying US garage and house records. Producers like Smack and MAW were the main influences. First serious forays into producing and programming.
'95/96'- Hooked up with G-Force and released experimental drum & bass track, "Northern Exposure" on Reinforced Records, to be followed by many more releases, including the LP "Just Another Number".
'96/97'- Meanwhile, his house tracks caught the ear of Phil Asher, who introduced him to Orin Walters of Mousetrap Records. This sparked the beginning of Bugz in the Attic, now a burgeoning collective of DJ's, producers and musicians which has gone from strength to strength producing tracks, LPs and remixes for scores of quality labels (see discography).
The last few years have seen Seiji recording under many guises, dropping bombs right, left and centre in the form of remixes and original productions. Plans for 2002 include recording the Opaque album, possibly a Seiji album and the production/development of artists with and for Bugz in the Attic.
