Munk is the musical project of Gomma label co-founder and boss Mathias Modica. Munk released the albums Aperitivo in 2005 and Cloudbuster in 2008. Munk is the musical project of Gomma label co-founder and boss Mathias Modica. Munk released the albums Aperitivo in 2005 and Cloudbuster in 2008. The albums have been described as “amazing psycho – soul and future disco!” by London’s i – D magazine. The NME called Munk “…the most influential German Disco act since Moroder…like a European version of New York’s DFA.”
The most well-known Munk tracks are Kick Out The Chairs! which featured James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem/DFA on vocals and Live Fast Die Old with Italian actress Asia Argento. Besides there were also other guests on Munk tracks: Midnight Mike aka Micky Moonlight (now signed to Ed Banger records), DJ Chloe and many other friends of Mathias.
Till last year Modica was mainly known as a DJ with an good feeling and knowledge of both old freaked out disco records and new house music. Since 2008 he is touring with a four person live band. The band is something like a German AllStar Disco band: featuring Modica on keyboards, Pollyester on bass, Ben Mono on guitar and Berlin’s superdrummer Jens Dohle on drums.
Right now Mathias is living in Marseille and Berlin where he is producing other bands (Die Sterne etc.) working on his new Munk album and remixes for Yeasayer, Riva Starr, Etienne de Crécy, Voltage, Danton Eeprom, Moshi Moshi and Institubes. Show less
