One of America's biggest techno DJs, Detroit native Jeff Mills is one of several members of the Detroit Techno collective who contributed to laying the foundation for that city's legendary electronic sound. Born in 1963, Mills began his career as a radio DJ on WJLB, but left in the late '80s to begin producing the Final Cut project with Tony Srock.
At the same time, Mills met former Parliament bassist "Mad" Mike Banks through a local garage group called Members of the House, for whom Mills was mixng a track. With similar musical interests, the two hit it off and soon created Underground Resistance and began recoding singles together, such as "Waveform"and "Sonic" with Robert Hood. Performing in uniforms comprised of skimasks and black combat suits, they were a veritable techno army, attempting to give the music more meaning. While he never officially left UR, Millsmoved to New York in 1992 to begin DJing at the legendary Limelight as well as to record solo tracks for the German label Tresor. In 2004, after several releases with Tresor, Mills rescored Fritz Lang's 1926 film Metropolis creating epic techno, a style he repeared with 2004's seven hour set with aurent Garnier at Fabric.
