Roland (1979) is currently studying Digital TV at the University of applied science in Salzburg and Stefan (1978) is studying at the IT College in Imst. Both grew up in Imst in Austria and are friends since they were 5 years old. When they were between 16 and 18 they already had a band called microwave treatment. Roland was playing guitar and Steve was the singer. At that time they made their first experience with song writing and recording. Their music was influenced by rage against the machine and other crossover bands in these days. Some people consider this origin still being heard in the music of grenzmedial. microwave treatment split up in 1998.
Roland was graduating at the School of Audio Engineering in Munich and worked in an audio recording studio in Munich for 4 years before he started his studies in Salzburg. Stefan was studying audio engineering for 3 years in Graz.
In 2004 their ways crossed again, and they started engaging in goa and psychedelic trance music. grenzmedial was born. Despite their spatial separation (Salzburg/Imst) they achieved to compose tracks every then and now and to improve their skills. grenzmedial uses only two laptops software- synthesizers, samplers and –sequencers to produce their music.
In 2005 grenzmedial added a new medial dimension to their working field. “The drug of the future is not a substance, but a multimedia experience that stimulates all senses equally” they stated at their website.
With the help of many friends they shot their first music-video vorgebiet in july 2005. The video was shown on two local tv stations (Salzburg TV and Kabel TV Imst), at the screen session 2 in Vienna and on the internet.
In December 2005 they made their first live-act in the crash club in Innsbruck. grenzmedial played 40 minutes of music whilst presenting visual art on 9 screens.
In Mai 2006 they started the shooting for their second video atemnote in Prague. In this video old public domain dancing scenes are being combined with self made scenes. Atemnote had a great impact on the internet.
In October 2006 grenzmedial finished their first album. All tracks were composed and produced between July and October 2006. They made a CD with 43 minutes of brand new music and a DVD including all songs with visuals, the two music videos and a bunch of extra material. grenzmedial is currently searching for a record company.
