Fritz Kalkbrenner was socialized in eastern Berlin during the early 90ies with a lot of New York HipHop of his heroes Eric B. & Rakim, KRS-ONE and the Wu-Tang Clan. No matter what his brother Paul and mate Sascha Funke promised him about Techno got him into it. Til the moment he more or less accidentally entered the Suicide Circus: through this night he got infected by the virus and from now on is dancing through the early Berlin Techno scene, which was mainly happening in clubs like WMF, Discount, Tresor and Matrix.
Just for fun... but good.
After breaking up with school he started his career as culture and music journalist. During this time he is already working on his own production skills. With the ultimate summer hit 'Sky and Sand', the first collaboration of the Kalkbrenner brothers released in 2008, he is proving, that he got a lot more to give beside beautiful vocals, which appeared already on releases from Monika Kruse, Alexander Kowalski, DJ Zky and surprise, surprise Sascha Funke on his 'Forms And Shapes'.
The influences of his close friend are always very present, maybe more then the sound of his brother; sometimes Fritz's tracks tend to be melancholic in its compositing, but is always pushing the listener with an inkling of better times and a glazing smile on his face to the dancefloor. Due to the lambent combination of classic Techno bass and poetic melodies he is bridging the gap between the rough distance of greyish Plattenbau-sound and the feeling of hope and love in early Rave. Not sentimental, but very true!
