Christian Candid (klein records / A) Biography
Christian "Candid" Dvorak was born 1974 in Vienna.
After finishing high school he studied dramatics in Vienna and started working as a freelance graphic designer for various clubs and concert promoters.
In 1993, he had his first own clubnight at the legendary U4.
The following years saw him moving further into the music scene.
He set up a clubnight called "Famos", invited international guests like Saint Etienne and took care of upcoming young talents of the Austrian underground music scene.
In 1996, he founded Klein Records and signed his first act Sofa Surfers.
Their first single "Sofa Rockers" gained international media attention; a longplay ("Transit") followed in 1997.
In the same year, Sofa Surfers toured Germany and appeared on various TV shows in Germany and Austria.
In 1998 Klein Records signed new artists (MUM, Mika, Uko, Lichtenberg and Planet E) and Christian set up his own recording studio.
Soon after Klein Records went worldwide; distrubution deals for whole Europe, USA , Canada, Australia and Japan were signed.
The year Y2K was most successful. Christian moved his office to a more spacious location. www.kleinrecords.com went online.
Seelenluft, the first non-Austrian artist was signed.
In June 2000, the Klein Social Club with Christian Candid as host started as a regular clubnight at the Meierei in Vienna with guest DJs like Koze, Four Tet, Baby Mammoth, Funkstörung, Tom Tyler, Renegade Soundwave and Andrew
Jervis (Ubiquity) amongst others.
Klein Records is one of Austria`s most interesting and prestigious off-mainstream music platforms with office in Berlin. Klein`s releases include renowned artists like Seelenluft, Sofa Surfers, The Bug, I - Wolf, Stratus, Stereotyp meets Al Haca and Planet E that aren`t only very successful at home but are also regularly celebrated by the international media.
The vision that defines Klein Records, namely to find its very own unmistakeable sound and language, has been a continuous process since the label`s early days, and one that has paid off well. Based on a DIY concept and an almost family-like relationship between label and individual artists, Klein Records has managed to create a solid homebase for highly diverse musical forms of expression that can only inadequately be subsumed under the “Sound Of Vienna" tag. For Klein Records has a broad vision that extends beyond its immediate surroundings, encompassing kindred spirits in Zurich, London or Berlin, and recognising these as places of intersections in a network created by stylistic soulmates who keep exchanging their sounds and data, their visuals and visions.
Christian Candid is working as producer and remixer for numerous projects including:
I-Wolf, “Positivity” (Remix) & “ Be My Light” (Club Mixes)
Louie Austen, “More” (Remix) & “Coming Home”
Sofa Surfers “Selling Souls” (Remix)
Various - Eclectic Sound of Vienna 3 “Intergalactic Boy”
