The group was founded in Ystad, Sweden in 1999 by Martin Rasberg and Roberto Mensa, since they shared a flat and a taste for electronic music. In 2001 the group moved to Malmö, Sweden where they had their first release: the 12” vinyl EP “Taxi Simulator 2000” (a.k.a. Elektro för udomsocknes, eng. trans. Electro for the out-of-towners) on the local label Electro Magnetic Pulse.
This was also the year that they joined up with the third member, Patrick Casey. Originally it was only thought that Patrick would do some sort of rudimentary management and write some new lyrics, but by the beginning of 2002 he was the group`s resident vocalist and lyric writer.
By the end of 2002 the group picked up their ambitions and started sending out demos, which resulted in a track on a Billy Nasty compilation ("BN02", TrustTheDJ, London, 2003), and a track on "Psychorock ¨03" (Logos Production, Paris). In 2003 the group also did their first live-performance. In 2004 the group established a relationvship with the New York label Satamile Records which led to the release of their 2nd 12” EP, “Pragmatic Response” which turned out to be quite a hit in the fairly low-key world of Neo-Electro.
When writing this, the group is about to release another EP on Satamile Records and have begun the production of their first music video. 2005 will likely turn out to be their best year yet, as there`s an LP scheduled and the group will also be making their first credited work for film production.
The music of Blotnik Brothers usually borders on Electronica/Electro/Neo-Electro. The roots of the music are from diverse sources indeed, hailing back to a blend between `70s funk and early `80s hip hop and synthesizer technology.
Early influences for the music are Kraftwerk, Afrikaa Bambaataa, Grandmaster Flash and Herbie Hancock. One of the more recent influences and possibly a deciding factor for the group`s choice of genre was Anthony Rother`s “Biomechanic”. Show less
