Fran's 1015 to sweaty basements in Manchester and hippy festivals near
Scotland. A BBC Radio 1 guest mix, and support from all the major dance
radio DJs. Tunes that appear on hugely successful compilations,
multi-million selling computer games and in the boxes of all the big names
in breakbeat - and beyond. Releases on the biggest labels in breaks and a
double nomination in the 2005 breakspoll awards. All this, AND a cheeky
grin... everyone loves Manchester's Baobinga!
In the past two years, Baobinga has gained a reputation for pushing a unique
and versatile sound that refuses to recognise boundaries. His sets take in
everything from techno, dubstep, garage, house, breaks, hip-hop and D'n'B,
and his productions have a similarly wide range of influences. From the
anthemic 'Bashment Track', which featured on the massive Freestylers Fabric
Live CD, the amen-based monster that is 'The Session' (licensed to the Shut
Up And Dance 'Breakbeat Elite' CD) through to the 4/4 stomp of 'Shake Yer
Head' (the fourth release on Aquasky's 777 label) and the glorious swagger
of 'The Feeling' (picked up by Electronic Arts for their FIFA Street
computer game), Baobinga has become one of the names to watch for anyone
interested in exciting, energetic breakbeat. His release on Supercharged,
'Know Ya / All Up In Your Head' was a collaboration with 30Hz and became a
firm favourite with the Plump DJs and Atomic Hooligan, and just about
everyone else! In conjunction with 'The Feeling' collaborator ID, Bao has
started the Big Monster project with the legendary Fat! records - showcasing
a chunkier, mid-tempo techno-influenced sound that is getting love from
Friendly and Freq Nasty, to name but a couple of fans.
New projects picking up steam include his Pablo Beatz alias, pushing the
breakstep sound to new levels and attracting support from J Da Flex, The
Plump DJs, Rossi B and Oris Jay, and an electro-house influenced album
project with 30Hz as 'The Bodysnatchers' - the first fruits of which were
picked up by Rennie Pilgrem for his Radio 1 Essential Mix (the utterly tuff
yet superemely funky 'Rip Shit Up') and are being battered by The Stanton
Warriors and General Midi. 2006 will see Baobinga continuing to elude pigeon
holes, push boundaries and get crowds jumping to his unique blend of beats
and bass, worldwide. Show less
