Simon Ashton a.k.a Baggy has always found unique ways to feed his obsession with vinyl & second hand shopping since it was pointed out to him that he might have a small compulsion with hoarding pieces of dusty round plastic and woollen cardigans. From the first time he was shown how to seamlessly blend two records together by some close friends (Who just so happen to be some of the regions most respected spinners) he knew his diverse musical tastes could help him stand out on the crowded local DJ circuit with years being invested searching monkey towns far and wide for those tracks other DJ`s had long forgotten or yet to discover. Event manager Simon finally took to the art of `DJ` after growing increasingly tired of having his records `borrowed`.
Being brought up on a diet of blue eyed soul and classic Stax/Motown gave him his solid background for his obsession with all types of music resulting with several stints during his teenage years jamming with local (mainly bad!) art school bands.
With over 15 years of dedicated record collection, Simon has climbed his way out of the bedroom to play at venues not only in the Greater Manchester region but all across Europe with the highlights having played in front of crowds of over 3000 people at the Snowbombing Festivals in France, Austria & Switzerland (Also warming up for X-Press 2, Mr. Scruff & Mylo) as well as Student Festival `Summer Break UK` performing in front of 1500 university students in several large capacity venues in the South West along side MTV`s `The Cuban Brothers`. Other international dates have included major parties at the Sonar & Beachbombing festivals in Barcelona and bars and clubs across the French Alps and the Netherlands as well as being invited to guest at parties and venues up and down the UK.
Over the years Simon has acquired experience of playing music for all types of crowds catering for all musical tastes ranging from private parties & corporate functions to knowledgeable club crowds. Not only does he first & foremost hold a fetish for vinyl but also he`s not afraid to embrace new technologies either. By incorporating the latest CDJ and Laptop DJ systems he has amassed a comprehensive collection (Currently well in excess of 20,000 tracks) of music which spans all sounds and genres taking in anything from underground Disco, Funk, Rock, Prog, Balearic, Hip Hop, Soul & everything in-between, providing the perfect soundtrack for early evening lounging or late night dancing. I know I'm going to like this one too - Azymuth, Eno&Byrne, Steven Malkmus, Can, Tom Tom Club, Asha Puthli, and Herb Alpert's wonderful 'Rotation'... good choices!
