born in brooklyn, new york. produced music in ohio. moved 2 minneapolis with the concept of Planet East.
When i look back on my music career, i am thankful whether it be rain or shine, God kept me under His umbrella from the beginning. In the mid 90's, i started my record label, Planet East. it was difficult 2 make the money that i needed 2 make without having a security blanket (i.e. a rewarding job, an inheritence, a rich Uncle, whatever). i produced quite a bit while i was living in Ohio. i loved music so that was what i produced. i didn't have any ideas about classifications of music genres. All i knew was I loved music. I wrote and produced everything from hip hop 2 metal. I also wrote and produced love songs by experimenting with tones, communicating with spiritual hosts. No matter what anyone heard, 2 me, music was music. I took everything that I learned and used it 2 make music.
when i was 8, i was introduced 2 the congas. I would play every chance that i got. i played alot, mostly by myself . I understood enough that I could then express myself on other "percussive" music instruments such as the organ and the piano. As time went on, I picked up on drums, guitar (acoustic and electric), bass guitar, upright bass and violin (which i played in school 4 several years). I also served in choirs in school and in church throughout my teen years.
I went 2 the studio 4 the first time at age 13. I recorded 3 songs that i helped engineer in the studio. From that night, I received the understanding that I needed 2 have 4 future music projects 2 come. I thought that I was going 2 be the youngest and the most popular producer of the music world. As a child, I spoke like a child, i acted like a child. but when a man, i put away childish things, such as having my mind on what i thought meant success. experience will cause growth. one will grow bitter or better, the choice is our own.
I took that attitude and went 2 minneapolis 2 set up a kingdom 2 altogether experience the Love, the Sound, blending together 2 create Happiness. the elements, the makings of Planet East..
let me continue... in the early 90's, i created an alias entitled, sonik boom of Love. i used that name when i released the first e.p. on Planet East. after the release of the record, "sonik boom of love" began doing live shows at raves, clubs, and wherever else our kind of species were accepted at that time. sonik boom of love consisted of hired friends/musicians and myself. i signed a record deal with a label in hollywood, california using only my alias (sonik boom of love) as the artist and producer. i made 2 album projects, released on CD and some of the tracks made it on vinyl. under the alias of sonik boom of love, i also contributed 4 songs 2 a few of their compilations.
after a year or so, i signed my own name with afterhours/underground construction (a record label in chicago) as a producer. the first release i gave the label is titled, "Hazy Shade of Love." it was released on underground construction. the next release is titled "fleshtones" which only came out on a compilation mixed by DJ Attack. i was initially the first producer 2 have something on afterhours. my release came out on a 10 inch, making it the only one UC came out with. right after "Hazy Shade of Love" was released, they officially started afterhours, the label. i started 2 release material on simple soul, a label that was distributed by dust traxx and ran by mazi (audio soul project). "love letters/past lives" was the first release i had on simple soul recordings. shortly after, simple soul released "tears" with a remix from the swirl people. i went on 2 record more material 4 other labels that understood my groove.
